I have always been courious about the history of Idol City Mine located in Harney Co., Malheur National Forest about 15 miles NE of Burns.I have always wondered when they started mining there, how big a mining area it was, when did it close etc. Just general history that comes with these old mines.Any photos out there? I did find a June 2006 US Forest Service Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analyst report that includes a map and some information etc., of buildings etc., left at the time of the report. The report list suggestions as to demolishing old buildings and filling in openings etc., as well as suggestions of what preservations measures need to be done for safety and health should it remain intact for Historical purposes. I remember our dad taking us there a time or two, while out on Sunday drives in the late 50's, early 60's.Exploring was minimal, and we had to stay right beside our dad and did not have free reign because of all of the dangers of it being an old mining camp. I have always been disappointed in not being able to find a history written on the mine, but possibly not looking in the right direction. Any input, would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.
