Dolores Anne Hale


Former Grants Pass resident Dolores Anne Hale, 81, of Portland died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at her home.

Recitation of the rosary will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will begin at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Mike Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.since1928hull.com.

Hale was born June 8, 1930, in Craig, Colo., to George and Florence Miller. In 1952, she married James A. Hale, who died before her. They moved to Grants Pass to establish a medical lab and raise their children. For many years she was the receptionist and bookkeeper for the lab.

She was a lifelong Catholic and was educated by the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Theresa's in Boise, Idaho. She also was a parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church for many years and was involved in various Catholic associations and apostolates, including Legion of Mary and the Perpetual Adoration Society.

She enjoyed literature, reciting passages from the poetry of her favorite authors, music, nature and camping. She also enjoyed writing articles for several regional magazines after taking a writing class at Rogue Community College.

Survivors include four children, Suzanne Denning of Salem, Jennifer Roney of Milwaukie, Becky Hale of Portland, and James Hale of Grants Pass; a brother, Joe Miller of Scotts Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.




A daughter, Rosemary Gade, died before her.
