Jesse L. Knighten Oregon pioneer died last week Jesse L Knighten native Oregonian and resident of Grants Pass and vicinity for more than 70 years died at 1:55 A.M. last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Olen Bell, with whom he had lived at 215 south 7th street. He would have been 92 years old on his next birthday, having been born in Forest Grove Oregon Oct. 10, 1855. In addition to Mrs. Bell surviving children are Mrs. Delia Smith, Wiley E. and Jesse Knighten all of Klamath Falls; Mrs. May M. Wimer, Wallowa Oregon; Elorice L. Knighten of Redding Ca. :Two brothers Lee and Fount Knighten of Ukiah Ca. and Hiatt Knighten of Lake Port Ca. Also there are 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was the grandfather of Mrs. Dorothea Bearss of Cave Junction. Mr. Knighten was well known in the valley where he had lived for 10 years before moving to Grants Pass. Years ago he owned what is now the L.W. Monroe ranch, near Takilma, farmed the Frank Barrett property on Caves Hwy, and other acreage in the valley. Funeral services were held at Hull and Hull Chapel last Monday afternoon, April 7, with rev L.B. Hall officiating. Internment was at IOOF cemetery on Grants Pass.
