Mrs. Martha A. Bushnell widow of the late Jason A Bushnell, died at her home in Berkeley, California, July 2, 1902, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 15 days. She was one of Lane county’s honored pioneers of 1853.After a week of intense suffering the Angel of Death entered the home and whispered “Peace be still” and she fell asleep in the arms of the loving Savior whom she had trusted from childhood. She leaves one son and three daughters, besides a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her departure, but some sweet day we hope to meet her again. She crossed the plains by ox team and settled on their donation claim six miles southwest of Junction City. After about thirteen years they sold and bought near Irving, from there they moved to Eugene and lived there until last summer when she and her two daughters moved to California to be near her son Dr. Geo. E Bushnell. During life Mrs. Bushnell built for herself a bright and shining monument and will be remembered by the old pioneers as well as the younger of her acquaintances. Thus one by one they are passing away to the land which lies afar. Where grief is all unknown; A land wherein the angels sing Around the heavenly throne.
