I don't know how familiar you are with the area, but Providence is off Fish Hatchery Dr and Richardson Gap. It is in between Lebanon and Scio but is classified as Scio.
If you go to Mapquest-type in Providence as the address with Scio as the city and OR as the state. A map will come up which lets you zoom in and out until you get a clear pitcure of the area.
As for its modern day appearance...the area is much like it was when your father lived there. It is farm and cattle land, flat and green. I usually take a Sunday drive with my dogs to a park out in that area, so if you need me to stop by the cemetery and look something up for you let me know.
I didn't see your father listed as Robert Jones on the 1930 in that area. I did find him in Silverton, Marion County with son Richard living in a rented house. His occupation was listed as Spice and Drug Salesman so he probably sold Watkins Products. They lived at 233 Mill Street. Here's the record listing: Name: Robert R Jones Age: 47 Estimated birth year: abt 1883 Birthplace: Idaho Relation to head-of-house: Head Race: White Home in 1930: Silverton, Marion, Oregon Marital Status: Widower Image source: Year: 1930; Census Place: Silverton, Marion, Oregon; Roll: 1947; Page: 11B; Enumeration District: 24; Image: 854.0.
I hope this helps. Good Luck with your search! Laura
