Thanks for posting the newspaper articles.I must say they confused me for awhile, but I finally figured out some of the mysteries.
Rebecca Barnes, Mary Barnes and Eliza Barnes were all daughters of Allen Barnes and Rachel Nolin/Nolind/Noulen/Noland etc.
Rebecca m. David Emmitt/Emmett in OH and she died in 1844.David married #2 Mary Barnes, Rebecca's sister.Sister Eliza remained unmarried and lived with the Emmett family.
Rebecca and David Emmitt/Emmett had a dtr. Rachel M./ Mary Rachel who m. James Q. Barnes back in OH, he appears to be a son of a William Barnes. They had children Annie/Amie E. Barnes who m. John A. Mills 2.May E. Barnes who m. Joseph H. Baker 3.Edward T. Barnes, who m. Ethel/Mabel.Mary Rachel and husband James Q. Barnes, after the Civil War and they married, went to McPherson, KS. - then on to Oregon.
Mary Barnes who m. David Emmitt/Emmett raised her niece Mary Rachel as her own.David and Mary had two sons, James and Harry/Harvey Emmitt.I think Harry, b abt 1863, must have died young as he does not appear on the 1880 census record with his parents. The son James R. Emmett went on to Denver, Colorado area.
BTW, the first article abt J. Q. Barnes, where you show "????ly, Ohio" was most likely Waverly which is located in Pike Co., OH.
I don't know why the Nov. 11, 1909 article refers to Mary Rachel as "Mrs. S. J. Barnes"Findagrave.com shows this death date as belonging in Mary R., wife of James Q.
Do you have a date for the last article you posted?
An 1884 newspaper article indicates that David Emmett had facial cancer, but I could not locate an obituary for him for 1896.He is supposed to be interred at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Saline Co., KS.
David Emmett's brother, James Emmitt lived in Waverly, Pike Co., OH, until his death. He built the Emmitt House Hotel which, (last time I was there), is still standing.
