Rowena L. Wales Funeral for Rowena L. Wales, a Southeast homemaker, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Holman's Funeral Service. She died Sunday in a Portland hospital. She was 73. Mrs. Wales was born and raised in Portland. She was a photographer for the Wallace Gwynn Studio in Los Angelas for several years. She is survived by a son, Gregory H. Wales of Fairfax, Va., and one grand child. The family suggest that remembrances be contributions to the American Cancer Society. Private entombment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Alida Shenefield Alida Shenefield, a 100-year-old Southeast Portland woman, died Monday in a Portland hospital. No service will be held. A lifelong resident of Portland, Mrs. Shenefield was the daughter of a German immigrant who built the family home in two sections on Southwest 21st Avenue. She began working for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in 1909 and worked in every office in the city until her retirement in 1949. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and of the Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist. Mrs. Shenefield is survived by her daughter, Rowena L. Wales of Portland; a foster daughter, Gayle M. Reed of San Diego, Calif.; a granddaughter, and a great granddaughter.
