Howard E. Burgess, a Northeast Portland resident, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday in a Portland hospital at the age of 70. A service has been held.
He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A former contractor, he had lived in the Portland area for the past 39 years.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Gertrude I.; sons, Gary H., Edward E., Curtis A. and Donald L., all of Portland; daughter, Donna Elrod of Portland; sisters, Edna Fehr of Seattle and Ada Tuning of Hermiston; and seven grandchildren.
Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the American Lung Association of Oregon or to Hospice House.
