Thank you so much Judy. I had found most everything except the 1889 divorce and don't know how I missed that.
Nancy Shepard-Vanderpool was the oldest daughter of Henry Shepherd/Shepard and was my great grandmother. Still a lot of confusion on their family in Iowa before they crossed the Oregon Trail in 1852. All we have to go by is an interview Nancy's sister did with Fred Lockley and published in the Oregon Journal in November, 1928.
In that interview Elizabeth only talks about her parents, Henry & Elizabeth, who died in 1849 in Iowa, and her sister Nancy. No mention of any other brothers or sisters. So for the time have to assume that Sarah and Lewis from the 1850 Henry County, IA, census may have been Henry's sister and her son. Even though Sarah is positioned where a wife usually is listed - it does not specifically say "wife".
Research on Henry father, Charles, mentioned a daughter, name not mentioned, moving with them from New York to Iowa in 1837, but Elizabeth does not include her when she talks about her father's siblings, only Henry's three brothers.
One thing I could find was the 1910 census for West Chehalem, Yamhill county, OR. Could you give me the link please?
