The 40 acres listed in PA records was in the neighborhood of Hwy 209 (Upper Smithfield) and what was then Dingman Ferry (Milford). I suspect the family may have been employed as teamsters. They only owned enough land for small scale farming, or more likely stables. This area was well traveled to get around the NY Metro area, allowing travel between Kingston, NY and Philadelphia,PA.
