Holdings (Inclusive dates: 1640-present): The Newport Historical Society's Collections include a library collection of 9000 volumes, 1,500 shelf ft. of manuscript material and 250,000 photographs. These materials are used by researchers seeking information on the history of Newport County and southern New England. Special Collections include the second largest genealogical collection in Rhode Island containing letters, diaries, and published genealogies. The Society also holds a complete collection of records for the oldest Quaker congregation in America, encompassing minutes of meeting, disciplines, vital records, and manumissions. Other collections include the Robinson Papers, a comprehensive collection of manuscripts chronicling the history of a prominent Newport and Philadelphia family, account books of other Newport businessmen, church records, ship logs, maps, town records, and personal correspondence of hundreds of Newport families.
