Brian, I found the following in Arnold's Vital Records of RI:
Hopkinton Vital Records - William Tanner Jr. and Hannah Utter were married 2 Nov 1784 by Elder Joseph Davis.
Betsey, daughter of William Tanner Jr. and Hannah, born 24 Sept 1786
William Tanner, son of William Tanner and Susannah, born 6 Aug 1760
Westerly Vital Records - William Tanner of Richmond and Susannah Thurston of Westerly, married by Justice Stephen Richmond 6 Nov 1755
The names William Tanner Sr. and William Tanner Jr. appear in a list of men from Hopkinton who served in the Rev. War.I checked Rev. War pension files at Fold3 for a William Tanner of RI/NY.There appears to have been some confusion among a couple of William Tanners in RI who served in the Rev. War.One removed from RI to MA and then OH.He was b in West Greenwich in 1761 and had a wife named Sabrina. There is a 2nd file for a William Tanner of RI and although it appears that most of the information has been lost, there was a request for information with a hand written note that indicates that a search was done and a William Tanner from RI served, was injured in 1781, received a pension beginning in 1783 and was transferred to NY about 1794.
