My husband's grgrandmother collected poems, recipes, etc. from various newspapers and magazines. The following is probably from the Ft. Worth Star (TX). Most articles do not have the year, but some are from 1910-1919. "Fort Worth, Texas - Sept 24 - Several thousand head of horses valued at several hundred thousand dollars and supposedly for ultimate service with the British Army in Europe, will be purchased in and around Fort Worth by a delegation of buyers now on the local market. Warner S. McCall of a St. Louis firm, who holds a direct contract with the Canadian Government, accompanied by Llewellyn Meredith, an English army officer, and Dr. F. C. Grimes, an English army veterinarian, have been on the Fort Worth market several days inspecting and buying horses. The horses are to be shipped direct to Canada. The first train load of forty cars will depart this week. It is understood the horses will replace the animals pressed into cavalry service by the Government. The Canadian Government made a contract with a St. Louis firm, which is now sub-buying on the Fort Worth and other markets."
