Has anyone seen this family in the 1860 or 1870 Texas census? I am looking for a SMITH head of household, first name unknown, wife Nancy, son Bailey, or Dock, or Sewell.
I have looked and looked for Bailey Dock SMITH, (may also have been known as Sewel Smith). He was born in Texas after the 1850 census on 26 Janury 1854, and I found him in 1880 and 1900, but I can not find him in the 1860 and 1870. His mother was Nancy (maiden name unknown) SMITH, bornDecember 1823 in Tennessee. His father was also born in Tennessee, first name unknown. His father possibly died before 1880.
Although Bailey was reportedly born in Comanche County, Texas, they were not on the census there in 1860 or 1870. He married Emma THOMPSON in Hill County, TX in 1879, and I found a Sewel and Emma SMITH on the 1880 census there, right ages and birthplaces, with a baby, Pearl.
I searched the 1860 and 1870 in Hill County and did not find him. Then I found him on the 1900 census in Comanche County. He died in Comanche County 12 Feb 1902 and is buried in the Board Church Cemetery. His stone reads D. SMITH b. 26 Jan 1854, d. 12 Feb 1902.
Related families started out in Harrison County in 1850, were in Erath, Rusk, Van Zandt, Bosque, Hunt, Hill in the 1860's and 1870's.
If you think you have seen this family on a census, please let me know. Any leads appreciated.
