Bill, If you know when & whereJ.T. Reid died and if it was 1903 or later you can probably get a copy of his death certificate. If someone present at his death (wife, son, daughter)knew his parents names they will be on the death certificate along with their state of birth.Additionally, his date and place of birth will be shown, the name of the informant for the certificate, and the name of the undertaker/funeral home handling the burial.Frequently the name of the cemetery is shown.
If you just found GenForum-Texas you may not have found the county boards. At the very top of the main page for Texas (or other state you may be researching) and in the right hand corner, click on "counties for this state".You will get a list of all the counties and you can click on "Gonzales" (for instance) and go to GenForum/Texas/Gonzales County Board.
GenWeb also has a Web Site for almost every county in each state. You can get to the main page using URL http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/The Web Site has a lot more information than just a message board; however, each site does havea "query forum" (message board). Good luck on your searches and Merry Christmas. Hugh Swift
