Hi- I've been reading your messages re:Smiths, and it kinda made me feel good to know that I am not alone in my frustration!
Been trying to get some background on my g-grandfather, John William Smith,Born at Waxahachie,TX. in 1863, or according to another report, 1859. He married Adaline Gaines on the Wiley Anderson ranch near Rocksprings, TX, and raised a large family in that area. Ichecked out some gravestones in the cemetary there, and they have grandmother's birth date wrong. All the county records were destroyed in the tornadoof 1927, or this would be lots easier. Anyway, their children that I knew personally when I was a youngster were James C.(my grandfather), Lee, Johnnie, Ida, Emma,
Fannie, and Lizzie. I know all about the family from that time forward, but I want to go BACK! It's utterly amazing how many John and James Smiths there were about 100 years ago. If anyone out there can help me out, using what information there is, I would really appreciate it.
