I am a Morse whose g g grandfather Charles Denny Morse came from NYC to Matagorda Bay, Texas on 3-2-36 to help fight in the Texas Revolution. He resided in Matagorda until 1839 when he moved to Austin, Tex.In 1842 he moved to Clarksville, Tex.Charles D. Morse (Charles DeMorse as he later changed it) had no living brothers but his father was Aaron Morse from Leicester, Mass. where Charles was born.He is descended from Robert Morse of Newbury, Mass.Robert and his 2 brothers, Anthony and William, came to Newbury from Malborough, Wiltshire, Eng. 1635-1644. It is my understanding that my g g grandfather worked at the law firm of Inglis and Van Wyck.Van Wyck was the brother-in-law of Samuel Maverick and thus heard of the situation in Texas and was lured by the idea of adventure.Perhaps our g g grandfathers were cousins? I do not know if Aaron Morse had siblings, but I'll begin to look around. The records in Leicester and Newbury, Mass. might be a good start.
