Forgive me if I make suggestions for something you've already tried.Have you checked the 1880 census? From that one forward, not only location of birth of everyone in the household is listed, but location of birth of their parents is included, too. This would give you location of birth for James Albert, and his parents.Follow him through 1920 census, using the Soundex, and you may be able to narrow down where he died.
SSDI (Soc Sec Dth Idx):
Adolphus Speights, b 7 May 1892; d Sep 1976; last residence Choudrant, Lincoln, LA; last benefit West Monroe, Ouachita, LA; SS card issued in LA.
TX Dth Idx Online 1964-1998 and SSDI:
Robert Manley, b 4 mar 1913; d 29 Jul 1996 Smith Co, TX; last residence Tyler, Smith Co, TX; SS card issued in LA.
If this is not the "Manley" listed in your query, with the middle name of Manley and SS card issued in LA, I would think there's a connection there.
If you do and Avanced Search on SSDI and just use surname of Speights and state of LA where card was issued, you will find quite a few Speights there.
I would check Harrison Co, TX GenWeb site, see if they have local obituaries online. If not, some counties have a list of volunteers who will do lookups; if none given, then post your query and see if someone could check for an obit for James Marion. Some GenWeb counties are putting their cemeteries online, you might find other Speights buried there, too.If not on the county site, be sure to check the TX GenWeb archived section, too.Happy Hunting.
