Well, I was using the advanced search feature and looking just for Robert Burtons who were railroad workers. There's only 2 that come close, one died in CA and his hascombined info from CA Dth Idx & SSDI:
Robert Burton, b 31 Aug 1897 MS; d 10 Oct 1980 Solano Co, CA; last residence and benefit Vallejo, Solano Co, CA.
Robert Burton, b 21 Oct 1891; d Jul 1978; last residence Williston, Levy Co, FL.
Found this one on CA Dth Idx, and pulled SSDI info, too:
Robert Burton, b 3 Apr 1887 OK; d 18 May 1980 Kings Co, CA; last residence and benefit Hanford, Kings Co, CA; SS card issued in CA.
Most SSDI records do not show middle name or initial.
Do you have a copy of your father's birth certificate? It should show his father's name, and his age, too.Talk to family members, anyway. You might be surprised at the "little" tidbits they may recall that will help you.Often people who don't do genealogy do not realize how important one little date, nickname, or location of residence can help in our research.Just let them reminisce, don't push too hard for details on first visit, sometimes one thing will lead to another.Worth a try.
