"Republic of Texas Poll Lists for 1846", compiled by Marion Day Mullens, shows 4 Roberts families in Anderson Co, TX, but only one McCarty.J.M. McCarty very likely is the father of Mary Jane.Females ususally lived at home until they married, where as young men could strike out on their own.
Check the 1850 census, see if J.M. McCarty is on there.Don't you just hate the way Texans loved to use just initials?Follow him, see where he dies, look for probate records, see if Mary Jane is listed as an heir. Also, when his land is sold, do the heirs sign off?Prove, or disprove, this J.M. McCarty as her father.
There are people on thise site who have books on early settlers of TX.I would post a query that would catch their eye."Roberts/McCarty early TX families", maybe one of them will be able to help you.
Check Anderson Co, TX GenWeb site, some GenWeb counties are not only putting their cemeteries online, but some are getting historical information on there, too.Post a query on that site.I checked your message history, and I would include all the dates you used in other query in future queries.I checked my book on Hamilton Co, TX, for your later ancestor, but did not find anything on the family.Happy Hunting.
