You say you found them on the 1880 census, but you didn't give any of the information from that census, such as ages, location of births etc.So, I went looking.I find it interesting so many of the male Newsom head of households in Bosque Co, TX are all born in GA.One even has a son named Averett, probably a connection between many of them.

Note, Wm. J. Newsom says father was born in NC, but J.W.A. who is listed as his father says he was born in TX.Don't you just love what those census enumerators did with the data they were supposed to collect?(^_^)
Have you visited the Bosque Co, TX GenWeb site? There's all kinds of info on Newsom burials in various cemeteries.Including in the Cendron Cemetery - Sarah Ann Harris nee Newsom, b 1844 dau of Averett & Eliza Newsom, wife of Taylor Harris.
Also, a Christine Neal is listed as working on Joseph Wright Averett Newsom.Looks like she is active and has submitted material for the site, so you might want to get in touch with her.Her eddress is on the site.
Check with the TX State Archives in Austin, they have a state wide death index from 1903 to about 1940.Willie might be listed, and it would give date of death and county. If your Willie is the one who is son of Calvin, he is listed as born in GA.Looks like children as young as five in these Newsom families were still being born in GA.So, they probably came to TX together and hadn't been there very long.
