Is this your John (age 5) in Franklin Co, TN 1880 census?Note, sibling named "Mattie" and see Rebecha A.?I bet that middle name is Ann/Anna and since the mother is also Rebecha they might call the daughter by her middlename.

For some reason the online 1880 version is coming up with a shortened version, I would check again, or see if you can find the multi disc 1880 CD set.It would be interesting to see what the relationship is between Mosinsry Hakersmit and John (head of house). These surnames sound rather German, and they spell Rebecha differently.
If you think this is the right family, follow the John E. in records, see if you can pick up anything else on him.Does he stay there, if so, does he leave a probate record?
From the archived section of the OK GenWeb Project, for Love Co, OK I found the following in Leon Cemetery:
John Wesley Hice, b 16 Jan 1873; d 22 mar 1945 Mary Bessie Hice, b 19 Oct 1873; d 28 Feb 1940
In Mt Zion Cemetery: Steve T. Hice, b 13 Jul 1903; d 3 Jun 1995.
And obit for the above Steve might list survivors you could try and contact for more info on this Hice family.
Have you checked the Love Co, TX GenWeb site? There on the Rootsweb query board are five matches to Hice, some are regarding a Hice family reunion held in 2001.Even if this is not your Hice branch, someone in that group may have come across information your branch while researching.
Post your query there and the GenForum sites, too.
