Do you think this might be your Gordon Byrd, from the Florida death index? This was the only listing for a Gordon Lee Byrd. Gordon Lee Byrd, white Birth Date: 16 Dec 1904 Died 18 Jan 1981 in Hillsborough County, FL Certificate: 5672 This person is also listed in the Social Security Death Index as: Gordon L Byrd, b 16 Dec 1904, died Jan 1981 in Tampa, Hillsborough, FL.Social Security number issued in TN (Before 1951 ) --415-05-2034
This sounds a LOT like your grandfather.I would recommend ordering this death certificate.Death certificates usually give the names of the parents of the deceased, and the next of kin will verify that it is your Gordon after all.
This looks to be your family on the 1930 census: 1930 U.S. Federal Census > Tennessee > Hamilton > Chattanooga > District 19 > Page 10A Family 273(rents for $15.This family does not own a radio) Gordon L. Bird, head, white, 25, married, age 21 at first marriage, reads, writes, he and parents b GA, furniture salesman Leatha, wife, white, 19, married, age 16 at first marriage, reads, writes, b Kentucky, father b US, mother b W Virginia Donald, son, white, 2, b Ohio Regina, daughter, white, ? months old, b Tennessee Reginald, son, white, 10 months, b Tennessee
I didn't see any good possibilities for Levi in the 1920 census. There was a Gordon L. Bird, age 18 (he and parents all b Georgia), in the military, stationed in Virginia in 1920, but it is hard to tell if that is your Gordon.
I would recommend trying to find probate or death certificates for each of the people in your family to verify the lineages. You can also check the 1880 census everyname index for free at www.familysearch.org.
