It took me a few minutes to make out the name on the 1900 census but it is Allen. There is a notation of "4-1" and under that is "of 4".I believe that is the census calculations of 4 in the household with 1 head of household or maybe 1 male.So the line is York, Allen 4-1
of 4
If you look at the other household entries they are all calculated.
I am a nurse and I am used to decifering Dr's bad handwriting. If you can get the gist of it the rest falls in place.
I actually had one man who tried to say that it was Albert M. and that maybe he changed his name since so many was named Albert in those days.
His name was Alford even if the census taker couldn't write or spell.
I found him on the 1910 censusin Limestone co 1 mile from where I grew up and my parents are still there. He was listed as Newton on that census and she was listed as Lou.
In 1930 he is with my grandparents, my daddy only 1 yr old.He is listed as Alferd.Daddy said that's cause grandma probably gave the information and that's how she pronounced it.
Now if I could only find something in 1880 or 1870.None of the names in Navarro Co fit for that time frame.
Even with the death cert info I'm still at a standstill.
