One can see your frustrations, as you didn't say when or where Perry or Isabelle were born.I went looking at your message history and in one post you say her name is Nancy Isabelle Bodine, but still no dates or location for births.
Are you sure Perry and Isabelle are alive in 1870 or 1880?You say you have looked at census records, have you dug deeper and looked at land and probate records for Shelby Co, TX?Land records are one of my favorite research sources.
Maybe Perry died and Isabelle remarried, any of her childen still at home might get dittoed in with stepfather's surname, it has happened.
Jonathan Anderson is early in Shelby Co, TX and owned land, so assume Perry did also.If Perry left minor children the court would appoint a guardian, yes even if the mother was still alive. That guardian didn't take the children to physically raise, but reported back to the court if any of the estate was sold etc, to protect interests of the minor children.
Have you checked the Shelby Co, TX GenWeb site?Someone abstracted info from census records for their county.
1850 census Shelby Co, TX:
Anderson, Perry, 30 b TX " Isabella, 25, b TX " John, 6, b TX " Jonathan, 4, b TX " Nancy, 1, b TX
I don't see him on there in 1860, just F.A.E. Anderson, who also was early in the county.
I see they have a list of volunteers who will do specific lookups, lots of good looking resources, you might contact some of those volunteers.
In one post you give a death date for James Perry Anderson, do you know county where he died?If so, have you been able to obtain a copy of his death certificate? It should show the names of his parents.
Forgive me if you've already tried these suggestions.(^_^)
