Adams is pretty common, so you might want to put a little more in your posts.I checked your message history, but you post bascially the same message.
You say his tombstone has he was born 1830, where is that tombstone located?When did he die?
You say census says he and his parents were born in TN -- on what census did you find him?
You say he married "after" 1854, why do you know it was after that date?
When and where were their children born?Even approximate years would help narrow the playing field. (^_^)
Because the 1880 census on FamilySearch includes an everyname index, and is user friendly as to spellings, I could go looking for the less common name of Retta. But, you must have found him on a later census, because this one does not show location of birth for either of his parents.
