I did request a marriage look-up a little while back for my William (WT) and Susan in Tyler County, but unfortunately no one has uncovered one. As far as the Georgia issue, yes the children were quite young when thier father died, but all told the census taker that he was from Georgia.
I would also like to note that I did find Susan's and JW's marriage record. William's widow did not remarry until 1880, and unfortunately used her widow name, Holland. Wheareas, Benjamin b 1862 and Mary 1863 were deceased by this time, and Council 1860, was married as was it was also likely that Mitchel 1864 had flown the nest. So, they would not have had many stories from the step-father during the growing years. I had the impression from family legend that this re-marriage was not really approved of by the children...but who really knows for sure. Although it seems that I have something somewhere that stated that JW Davis was also from Georgia, probably the marriage record, but cannot find it presently.
I will continue looking for William's marriage record, though, it is my hope that it has been overlooked and will certainly turn up!
