The James C. Wood family I am researching is given below, I found the names in the 1850 and 1860 Alabama censuses but cannot locate any of them for an 1870 census, probably left Alabama after the war between the states and I know NOTHING further (absolutely nothing) about any other Wood connections to this family.
JAMES C. WOOD was born Abt. 1814 in South Carolina, farmer & age 36 1850 Alabama census.. He married NANCY -?- Bef. 1840 in South Carolina.. She was born Abt. 1820 in South Carolina, age 30 1850 Alabama census..
Children of JAMES WOOD and NANCY -?- are:
i. JANE M. WOOD, b. November 1840, SC, age 20 1860 Ala census.; d. Aft. 1900, Harrison Co, Tx; Jane married JASPER NEWTON DAVIS, 12 January 1860, Jacksonville, Calhoun, AL; b. 22 October 1832, SC Source: Al census, age 27 1860 Ala census. Bricklayer. 3 yr old son from first marriage in hh with #2 wife.; d. 24 March 1875, Tx. Source: CW Tx widow's pension & family Bible..Jasper had a first wife who died leaving one child, her name was Mary Frances McElrath and the child was John Wesley Davis. This family ended up in Texas.
