I'm willing to bet the Elizabeth Roycroft 65 b NC, also listed in Tuscaloosa Co, AL in 1860, is the mother of your ancestor.Looks like he is listed as Aaron on that census.
Stephen Roycroft 43 b NC has a child as old as 15, so they should show up on the 1850 census in AL. I do not have access to online census index for 1850.I did find 1850 census just for Tuscaloosa Co, AL, there are two young single Roycroft men both born in NC, each living in a different household, on that census.
Elizabeth Roycroft is listed in the Bill Burks household and his wife Louisa 43, was born in NC, probably daughter of Elizabeth. The oldest Burks child is 14 b AL, so they should also be on the 1850 census somewhere in AL.It might help locate the Roycrofts, too.
By 1870 census he is Anson Roycroft; and the other family is Bennett Burke, wife the same, and Elizabeth Roycroft 79 b NC is still living with them. Also, an A. Bonaparte Roycroft 51 b NC with wife and family shows up.You might watch for him on the 1850 census, too, I believe the Monroe Roycroft 24 on the same page with him is a son, so Bonaparte should be on the 1850 census in AL.
These are all just clues and hopefully they will pull the family together, as Anson/Aaron could be at home with his parents on the 1850 census, let's hope so.
