Word of mouth family information indicates that My Paternal Grandmother J. Lemmie Bice was born 20 March 1868 in Butler Georgia, and then accompanied her father, an unknown male Bice, to Texas, possibly Collin County.
She Married a gentelman named C. Tillman Fox, and they had one child named Nancy Alice Fox in about 1884. Evidently Mr. Fox died shortly thereafter. Their daughter Married George Bradley about 1905, built a family, and died in 1950.
In 1885/1886, J. Lemmie remarried, this time to a gentleman named Tom Taylor, believed to have been born about 1862 in or about Little Rock Arkansas. Some in the family believe that Tom had children from a prior marriage.
In 1890, this union produced my father Ben Jerry Taylor, and in 1892, my aunt Georgetta.
Word of mouth history indicates that my grandfather was shot and killed in the street of a small Texas town (Possibly Lydia), when my father was a young teen, leaving him the responsibility to care for his mother and siblings.
Ben Jerry married Cora Ethel Morgan in 1912. While farming (share cropping, in Red River and Bowie Counties) they produced seven children, concluding with me in 1930.
J. Lemmie is remembered as a headstrong woman that few dared question. Every document related to her life was kept in an old sea chest. Upon her death in 1949, this chest was passed to the daughter of Georgetta who resided in Orange Texas. As fate would have it, the chest was stored unnoticed in a garage for several years, until it was stolen by a person or persons unknown, depriving the family of every means of tracing my paternal grandparents ancestry.
Anyone with knowledge of J Lemmie or Tom please contact me. Thank you, Don Taylor
