To add to Nina's information.1850 census Lawrence Co, TN:
McAnally, Milton, 23, b TN -farmer, no land shown " Cyntha H., 22, b TN " Jas. H.F., 1, b TN " Wesley C., either 1/12 or 7/12, b TN
On that 1860 census Milton has 2300 personal, I would say he owned slaves; because by 1870 it has dropped considerably. In 1850 he didn't own any land, so I would look at land and probate records, see if he inherited some land and slaves.Or, look for a gift of a slave/slaves.I had a TN ancestor, whose mother gave her a slave -- record said to my daughter Jemima, wife of William Standefer, so I had proof of Jemima's mother - Mary Jones.
You might want to check out other records on the Lawrence Co, TN GenWeb site.
Is this your family on the 1880 census Collin Co, TX?I looked at the handwritten record, and think that should be M.L. McAnally. If this is your family, I would look for marriage in AR.
