We are looking for ANY descendants of Rev. John Henry Anderson (born in Calvert, TX, 1859) who was a Methodist minister in Dodge, TX. John Henry was one of the first Black ministers in the United Methodist church, and was the founding pastor of Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church (near Trinity and Lovelady, TX).
Parents: Shedrack (sp?)Anderson (GA, 1822) and Mariah Anderson (AK, 1843). The Anderson children are: Samuel (1851), John (1854), Harriet (1865), Abe (1867), William (1862), Mahaley (1862). This information was retrieved from the 1870 US Census.
Rev. Anderson's first two wives predeceased him. First wife's name is unknown -- children are William "Will" Anderson and Frances Anderson McGowan Robinson.
Second wife's name was Emma Sanders -- children are Emma Beatrice Anderson Oldham (1885) and Rosedon Anderson.
Third wife's name was Minnie Smiler (or Smiley) -- children are Gordon Anderson, Sr. (1916), Samuel L. Anderson (1913), James Anderson (1905), Leon Anderson (1907), Floyd Anderson (1909), Eugenia Falda Anderson McKnight (1903), Elgie Anderson McGuire (1901), Perdecia Anderson Mock (1911).
Rev. Anderson passed away December 12, 1915, in Dodge, TX (between Riverside and Huntsville, TX). The last Anderson offspring (Gordon, Sr. - my grandfather) of Rev. John and Minnie Anderson passed away on August 2, 2004.
The family has come to a dead end and have not been able to locate prior family history, nor have we been successful in locating descendants of these family members. We are especially interested in locating information on my great-grandfather's parents who originated from Georgia and Arkansas!
We are mainly located in the Houston, TX area.
If you, or someone you know, has any information about the Anderson descendants, it would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our family website (in progress) is available for review for anyone who is in search of their Anderson relatives that might be a descendant of Rev. John Henry Anderson.
