Thanks for all the info, I'm touched by how many responses I've had. Somebody else has suggested that there may be a link to the Helesoria you mention.
I have his service records, my mother wrote to the US Government under the "war babes" act, it shows he was a cook, I also have his service number (18 220 716) but I have searched the military sites I know about and can't find anything.
We don't know if he is dead or alive, the government sent a letter to his last know address (1964) which was in Caruthers, CA but it was returned to sender, unopened.
My Grandmother is still alive and refuses to talk about him, so finding any further details is difficult, my Mother seems to remember that his had an older sister.
He got the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was inducted at Ft. Bliss TX and seperated at Ft. McClellan, AL.
Somebody else has suggested obtaining a copy of his marriage certificate as that may include his parents names - I'm going to do that this week and see if it turns anything up - will keep you posted.
Thanks again for your response, it would be a dream come true to my Mother to find him, but I fear time is running out, if indeed he is still alive.
