I have been searching for information regarding Nick and Betty McKinney and hit a dead end but now think I might be on the right trail.... I believe Nick was a nickname for H. W. McKinney.
I got a copy the marriage license for H.M. McKinney and Elizabeth Nerren (Dec. 9, 1886) and found that his name is actually H. W. McKinney (error in transcription, I guess) and that unlocked a lot more information. It appears that this is probably Henderson W. McKinney, son of Roland McKinney and Martha Brookshire. My grandmother told me that Cleburne McKinney (her dad and son of “Nick”) told her that she was kin to the Brookshires but she did not know how. I think all the puzzle pieces are fitting if H. W. is “Nick”.This is what I have on H.W. So far:
He was the son of Roland (Rolin) McKinney (b. 1824) and Martha Brookshire (originally from Ala. and Tenn, moved to Texas, then Montgomery Co. Arkansas) Children in the 1870 census in Mt. Ida, Montgomery Co., Ark:
William, 19 "Anderson", 18 (transcription error - he is listed as Henderson in the 1880 Montgomery Co., Ak; and in the 1860 census for Homer, Angelina County, Texas) Sarah, 15 Nancy, 12 Edward R., 9 Mary E., 5 James K?, 2
In the 1880 census Edward and Henderson are living with Martha (head of household) but not with the younger children.Am looking for information on any of the children.
I am looking for where H. W. is buried.Family history says that Nick was living in the Ben Franklin, Delta Co., Texas, area and was buried in Lamar County.I have not been able to find any information on this.
Also on the same page with Roland in the 1870 census is his brother, Reuben McKinney.
Elizabeth (Betty) Nerren remarried Albert McCoy in 1900 so I am assuming that Nick died before that time. The children of Nick and Betty McKinney are Edward Taylor (b. 1889), Cleburne Oliver (b. 1892) and Thomas Matthew (b. 1894). I was also told one other child Kirby died but I have no information on him.
Any information on locating the details for Henderson would be very, very much appreciated.
