Hi Mr Adams!
Eugene Lavarsha NUNNELEEakaE.L.akaLavarsha
born 21 Nov 1847 in Savannah, Chatham Co, GA but raised from infancy in Auburn, Macon Co, AL. He was the youngest of 7 children.

In 1866 he, his divorced mother, and his unmarried sister left Auburn and moved to Hill Co, TX. I do not know if any of his siblings (William, Mary, John, James Walter) came with them as I have not been able to identify anyone as siblings William or Mary after 1850, my last record of John is his CSA service, and my last record of Uncle James is 1860 as a widow with 3 daughters under age 5.

In 1870 his mother was living with her newly married daughter. 1870 is the nightmare as Grandpa was still unmarried and most likely somewhere in central Texas but definetly not indexed on Ancestry com as Nunnelee or any other name that begins with N-u-n because I have looked at every single one of them born between 1843-53 !!!

But abt 1873 he married Hadie N. [Griffin] born 21 Mar 1856
presumedly in TX and had 2 children born before 1880:
Walter Eugene born 09 Oct 1874 Alvarado, Johnson Co TX
Hadie Alice born 21 Nov 1878 somewhere in TX.
Again, he was most likely somewhere in central Texas but definetly not indexed on Ancestry com as Nunnelee or any other name that begins with N-u-n because I have looked at every single one of them born between 1843-53 !!!
And I have looked at every single possibility for Hadie and his children.

Grandpa was a well-educated man and taught all 11 of his children the history of the spelling of their surname
N-u-n-n-e-l-e-e.My personal opinion is that he is listed (as he always signed his name) "E.L. Nunnelee" on both censuses but lost within Ancestry com's inexcusably mangled surname indexes(like Thomas Nunlee indexed as Woods !!!)

You are so thoughtful to ask but I can't ask you to take this monumental task on when there are so many others that need help.

Happy Trails to you always,
Kathye
