For those who are interested in the Civil War info pertaining to John William Dean, b. Aug. 1, 1841, Al and died in Comanche Co., TX be aware that the info pertaining to him as recorded on WorldConnenct.rootsweb.com is extremely incorrect. (1) It shows that he 1st served between 1861-1865 as a Pvt. in the 24th Reg’t of the Tenn. Infantry. That info has been proven false. (2) The posting to the site also shows that John enlisted again in the Civil War, but in 1867 and in the 44th AL Infantry in Texas. As we know, the Civil War ended in I865. However, further down in the article it shows the correct information. Further, John enlisted in Alabama in the 44th Infantry and served in the 44th for throughout the war in the 44th. The erroneous info also shows that John served in Co. D 10th Texas Cavalry in Cheathams Division in Texas. No so. The worst part of all of this misinformation is that whomever ordered a Civil War headstone for John had it engraved with info showing he had served in that Tennessee unit. There actually was a John Dean who served in Tennessee, but that John Dean was a citizen of Tennessee and a deserter.
