Hi Marjorie, I'm not sure why you posted this in TX when you're looking for Joe in AL and SC. Also when you post a query, be sure you post everything you know about the person. Where and when Jesse and Joe were born would have been a big help. What their wives' names were and where and when they were born. Help us to help you.
I did find info on Jesse. I first found him in 1880 in Duffers, Tallaposa Co., AL. Jessie [spelling on Census], b. SC, 21 yrs old, farm laborer, father born=SC, mother born=GA. Amanda, wife, b. AL, 25. L. M., son, b. AL, 9. A. C., son, b. AL, 8. Joseph W., son, b. AL, 6.
Most of the 1890 Census was destroyed in a fire.
In 1900 they were living in Eagle Creek, Tallapoosa, AL. Jesse R., b. Jan 1849, SC, marr 35 yrs, farmer. Manda A., b. July 1850, AL, 49, had given birth to nine children but only eight were alive in 1900. John W., b. Aug 1883, AL. Bud A., b.. Oct 1886, AL. Charley, b. July 1893, AL.
A Jesse Garrett d. 28 Dec 1914, Tallapoosa Co, per Volume 36, Cert 270, Roll 1. Source: Alabama Deaths 1908-59, ancestry.com.
I looked through all the children's census records to see if Jesse or Amanda lived with them during their senior years but didn't find that to be so.
Jesse and Amanda were married abt. 1865 per the 1900 Census. I'd check Tallapoosa Co. for their marr cert. Enter Tallapoosa County Alabama Genealogy in your browser and several choices should appear. Look for their genealogy society, historical society, etc. Also look up that county in www.rootsweb.com or www.usgenweb.com.
Also since so many decades are involved and to double check my work, you confirm what I found with a second source or order copies of birth, marriage and death certs. Successful Searching!
