Several participants of the famous 1869 'Salt Creek Fight' of Jack County, TX are related by blood and marriage, and are my ancestors. Jason N. McClain/McLean b. abt. 1849-50 in Louisiana, to William W. Mclean, M.D.(1821-1853) and Mary Eleanor Graves (1830-1869?). Mary Graves was the daughter of Samuel Graves (1802-1873)and they came to TX in the late 1840s to early 1850s from GA, MS and LA. William W. McLean died near Tyler, TX abt. 1853. Mary (Graves) McLean moved with her father Samuel to Jack County, TX. In 1860, Jason, his mother and sister, Amarinta Vance McClain/McLean are living with Samuel in Jack County. The Salt Creek Fight of 1869 mentions Jason McClain, Ira Graves, Dr. Getzwiller of Old Black Springs, and Ruben Segrest. Jason McClain is reported to have died on a cattle drive from TX to KS about two years later (1871). His death is attributed to wounds recieved in the Salt Creek Fight. In 1880, Amarintha McClain is recently divorced from Dr. Joseph F. Getzwiller (who attended the wounded of Salt Creek Fight)and she and her son Joseph R. Getzwiller are living with her uncle Ira Graves.(Palo Pinto?). (Amarintha 'Willie' Getzwiller later marries Ruben Segrist) and died Eddy County, NM in 1886. Any info on the burial location of Jason N. McClain/McLean and his mother Mary Eleanor (Graves) McLean, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
