How about cousins? You never know what they might have heard that was never passed along to you. Or, simply "over heard" when grown ups thought they weren't listening????
My grandfather and his first cousin only knew their own grandparents as Grandma and Grandpa Walker, but the husband of that first cousin remembered things they didn't and it wasn't even his blood line. He said their grandfather was C.P. Walker and he thought the C stood for Charlie and their grandmother's maiden name was Mahaffey. When I heard this I couldn't believe he knew the maiden name and not the given name. We know the last thing a researcher usually finds out is that maiden name. Well, he was right, Charles Pinkney Walker and Lucinda Mahaffey. I would still be struggling without those first "clues." Walker is a very common name in TX.
So, talk to "everyone" take notes, even when you think they might be wrong or a little off, you never know.
