You give out soooo much helpful information, but I'll throw you a curve. I have a copy of a copy of an old white on black death certificate, obtained years ago by a distant cousin. It's for my gr gr grandfather who died in, and is buried in, Uvalde Co, TX (1926). While on a trip from CA to TX, I stopped in the county courthouse to obtain a fresh clean copy so I could read the name of the funeral home. The court house did not have his death record! The lady was very thorough, we got to looking at my old fuzzy copy and she noticed it had been issued by the state and not by the county, I had never even noticed. I asked her how the state knew if the county hadn't sent them the information. She was puzzled, but decided to pull other DCs from the same time period and compare to mine and we figured out the name of the funeral home.
I never cease to be amazed at the trials and tribulations of genealogy research.LOL
