You do not specify what you do or do not know-so here are some things I see:
John Starr and Mary Jane Edwards were married on June 20,1876 in Palo Pinto Co.,TX.
By 1880 they, along with John's widowed mother and her other children--Richard,James,"Lony"? and Isabell- were in Jack Co.,TX farming and ranching.
The 1880 census lists John,Mary J. and a daughter Lindy age 1.
Sarah Jackson and Jesse Starr were married on Sept.25,1851 in Harrison Co.,TX;he born in TN abt.1830 and she in MS abt.1835; they lived in various counties in Texas-Sarah of course shows up in San Diego Co.,CA in 1900.
Interesting that the children of John Starr were counted in two completly different places and as different people in 1900 San Diego:
on June 2 they were:
Starr,Clara-born Aug.1831;born MS;11 children born,4 living; parents born TN
daughter-Belle-born Jan 1870;30;single;born TX
son-Early-born July 1882;TX
son-Burly-born July 1882;TX
grandaughter-Jessie-born Mar 1890;CA
and on June 8
Starr,Sarah J.-born Aug.1831;MS
son-John- born July 1855;TX;widowed
grandsons Early and Burly-born June 1881-TX
census is often weird though--depends on who gave the answers.
In 1910 on H Street in San Diego, John W. is head of household, with son Burleigh, mother Sarah and sister Belle.
I do not personally find any further evidence of Early or Bright after 1900.
"Burly" was spelled "Burleigh" in later records; he registered for the WWI draft in 1918-"Burleigh Harold Starr",born July 25,1882,giving his nearest relatives as "Jessie Starr sister" and "Willam Bu*** brother" (scan is cut off on the rest of the name of William" and his address),Jessie residing in Los Angeles on 516 1/2 ***street-street name not readable..
Burleigh is in San Diego in 1920,not married; 1930 San Diego, not married. Last found in the 1937 San Diego city directory working for the gas co. Possibly died on June 26,1940,but that record gives a birth date of Jan.1,1888,which is counter to other records-but might even be a transcription error-hard to say. He last registered to vote in San Diego county in 1938.
Jessie G.Starr lived at 5161/2 W.6th Street in Los Angeles in the 1920 census;she is shown to be 29,divorced,and her means of income is "proprietor-furnished rooms"--so she ran a boarding house in her home. Two boarders reside there.
She is found in the 1921 Los Angeles city directory on 660 Wall St.-employment is "furnished rooms".
CA death records show that "Jessie Marteen" died on May 8,1925 in Los Angeles County;35 years old, spouses first initial "F".
One can obtain a copy of her death certificate, which would give further information-burial,spouse etc.--tricky business getting these from the state of
California, but probably the only means of finding out further detail on her. Instructions for obtaining Los Angeles county records here:
At the bottom of the page here,is an index of obits/death notices from San Diego newspapers:
In this index are obits or death notices printed in the San Diego Union newspaper for:
John Wesley Starr,page 5, on Oct. 25 and 26 1914
Sarah A.Starr,page 30,July 13,1906
I found no clear information on obtaining copies of those, so you might contact the library and see what the procedure is:
or the San Diego Genealogical Society for research assistance:
San Diego county deaths also show
"infant son of Mr.and Mrs. John Starr",age 2 months, on Nov.23,1893,and "Mrs.J.M.Starr" on Jan.25,1896,age 41-the "M" possibly a transcription error.
