My Cole family seems to have migrated from TN>AR>OK & TX.John William Cole b. abt. 1829 moved his family from Lincoln County, TN, to Independence County, AR, probably late 1859.His wife was Elizabeth Painter, and the Painters were also on TN census 1859 and Ind. Two of the boys married into a Francis family from MS (see my posts Francis forum). Jacob Cole m. Elizabeth Francis 15 Oct. 1883 and John W. Cole married her sister Nancy Jane Francis.
Malinda Cole married Newton Wren, and her sister Hepsie married Henry Spark Wren, later divorced. These, I believe, were the sons of Henry Wren.
Henry Wren and Unk. 1st wife had children Nancy Ann, Sarah Jane and William H.Second wife was Elvira Phebe Meeker with children Newton Andrew (m. Sarah Malinda Cole), Henry Spark (m. Hepsie Mary Cole), Joseph H. (m. Mary Kate White), Thomas (m. Alice Thompson on 24 Oct. 1889 in Cushman), Edward G. (m. Sarah Newman on 8 Sept. 1881 in Cushman).
Lawrence Cole is said to have married a Kittie Martin.
William Henry Cole married first Hettie Ann Tosh 14 Sept. 1876.I don't know if Hettie died or they divorced, but Wm. Henry married
Martha Ellen Johnson 7 Oct. 1888.
My g-grandfather Franklin Price Cole b. 26 Oct. 1857 m. Alice Nora Pierce b. Greene Co., MO, dau of James Albert Pierce b. KY and Catherine Unk. b. IN. Franklin Price Cole d. 26 Oct. 1952 Fannin Co., TX, and is buried at Shiloh Cemetery.
Two or three of the children in this family remained in AR, Franklin Price migrated to Texas about 1912, and others including FP's parents John William and Elizabeth Painter Cole settled in Sallisaw, OK.John William and Elizabeth Cole are buried at Fleetwood Cemetery near Sallisaw; he died 1900 and Elizabeth 1904.
Elizabeth Painter was the daughter of William Painter b. abt. 1810 and Hepsie Unk.Eliz. had a sister Julie who married Adino Griffin Pittman in Ind. Co. Jan. 1869.She died in childbirth late the same year. Adino then married Rebecca Green 15 Feb. 1871 and later married Mary Jane Francis 24 Nov. 1874.

Hayden Lemuel Cole was my grandfather.His wife Etta Jane Melton b. 1898 (m. 26 Dec. 1916 Ind. Co., AR) was the daughter of Hiram Melton and Martha M. Banning. (See my posts on Melton and Banning forums). Etta Jane Melton grew up in Cushman, AR, and had to cross Punkinseed Creek to go to school.Her brothers would take the family corn to be ground to the old mill near Batesville (it's still there). Etta Jane was named after both her grandmothers, Ankie Jane Blankenship who married Hiram Melton and Nancy Jane Thomas who married Lorenzo B. A. Banning.

John William son of Jacob married 2nd Mary Richardson.Their children were Roosevelt, Charlie, Magdalene, Veda and William Jennings Bryan Cole who married Lorene E. Jones.
Jacob Cole is buried in the Francis Cemetery Ind. Co., AR.I'm told a Tom Arnold now owns the land, which was originally donated by John Francis.John A. Francis m. Mary Baldwin.Their son James m. Josie Helms.Helms is another surname that figures prominently in this family.

Their son Charlie Weaver Banning m. Callie Frances "Callie" Helms 25 Sept. 1900 Cushman, AR.Two of their children are buried in Lamar Co., TX.
