Robert Guthrie, presumptive son of James Guthrie, of Chester, Pennsylvania bears all the earmarks of being the brother Robert of the James Guthrie, whose line has just been represented. There is danger of confusing this Robert with Robert, the son of Robert Guthrie of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. They were of about he same age and both lived for a time in Washington, Pennsylvania. This Robert Guthrie appears to have been the first of the two to move into western Pennsylvania. Robert Guthrie Jr. of Carlisle, did not take up land in Washington, Pennsylvania., until 1785.
