Both Richmond and Williston (Chittenden County) had significant western migrations from Fay, Murray, Talcott lines to name a few. I have been tracking what seems to be countless lines to CA from VT during the gold rush. Of course there were those who took advantage of western migration before the gold rush which I have traced only a few (like Bronson). Of course there are other VT counties that had western migrations but my study is driven by genealogy, not of just my branch, but of family at large. Fascinating study of families and history from a more personal perspective than scholars can offer.
