I am looking for additional evidence of my great grandfather Gustave Helmer Holmberg having lived in or near Tekoa, Washington between 1910 and 1920. In general he lived in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin most of his life, though it appears he spent some time between 1910 & 1920 living in Montana/Washington State.
I am in possession of his Masonic Membership record which shows he was a member of Tekoa Lodge No. 78, beginning in October 1916, at least through February 1917. He requested a “dimit” to transfer to another Lodge in 1920, though he didn’t necessarily have to physically still be there for that occurrence in 1920. I believe this record indicates he was living in or near Tekoa at least from Oct 1916 until Feb 1917. His listed occupation is teacher. He is age 25.
I have evidence to believe his estranged father, Erick Mattson (born 1859 in Sweden) owned property in Moran Township, Spokane, Washington from 1908 until 1924. I have the deed of property bought/sold by him.
I am looking for evidence of Gus Holmberg or Eric Mattson in or near Tekoa between 1910 & 1920. I believe each would have been living alone at this time. Wondering if anyone has any records which may assist me with this.
I did find 2 records supporting that Gus Holmberg worked as a teacher in Tekoa from Aug 1915 until Summer 1917.
I continue to be interested in any other local records which may give further information, specific to the time he was in Tekoa. So far what I have found are his Mason lodge membership record & teachers records at Washington State Archives.
Thoughts include yearbooks from that era or other school records (especially the 1915-17 school years)? Any lists of students/teachers from that timeframe? Any city/county directories? Do you know what churches may have been active at that time (Lutheran)?
I’ve done an extensive amount of research on these ancestors & have written a large report based on records available on ancestry.com, censuses, etc. What I am interested in help with in particular are local resources at the city, county or Washington State Level.
Additional information if needed: Gus was born in Negaunee, Michigan March 15, 1891. Parents Erick Mattson (born Sweden 1859) and Anna Mathilda Holmberg (born 1863). Siblings Charles Holmberg (born 1883), Oscar William Holmbeg (born 1891) and Edyth Holmberg (born 1893). He remained in Negaunee at least through the time of the federal census in 1910 when he was 19 years old. I know little about where he was between 1910 and 1917. He is not listed in the Negaunee, Michigan City Directories of this era, even though he would be of adult age, which may be a clue he was not in Negaunee from 1910-17. I later have evidence of him living in Granite County, Montana (where he was a teacher) from Sept 1917 until March 1918 at which time he enlisted in the Army until being discharged from the Army in January 1919.
