Hi Bill,
The information on a death certificate is sometimes incorrect because the family member providing it doesn't remember correctly, is in shock and grief or thinks they know the answers.
I've searched the Censuses for a Charles Gardner with a daughter Lyda but didn't find anything.
According to the Lisk/Shields Family Tree, trees.ancestry.com/tree/17348373/person/155126797 her father was William W. Gardner b. 7 March 1837, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Ohio and died 1878 Baker City, Baker Co., Oregon.
According to the same family tree her mother was Nancy J. Robinson Gardner Lathrop b. abt. 1837, Indiana and died 1880 in Baker City, Baker, OR.
Then I went back to the Censuses and there is no definitive answer. In 1870 in Clark, Washington Territory W. W. and Nancy Gardner had a girl Ida b. abt. 1861 in Wash. Terr.
In 1871 the family was living in Clark Co. and they had a daughter named Idia, 8 yrs old, born in Iowa.
I couldn't find them in any Census after that date.
I suggest you try to find Lyda's birth certificate although 1861 is very early in Clark County's history. You will find Clark Co. volunteers at raogk.org
Read Guidelines
Choose Washington
Scroll down to Clark County and choose Garry.
I think her birth info might be at the Court House. I know that's true in other counties. Garry does Court House research.
Birth certs from 1890 through 1907 are at the Clark County Auditor's Office. Do a Google search for Clark County Washington Auditor.
According to the same family tree, Lyda married David A. Wiggins. In 1880 he was living in Union, Union Co., Oregon with his wife Eliza or Lyda? Marriage records in Union Co for 1865-1968 are at the Oregon State Archives, arcweb.sos.state.or.us/county/cpunion/marr.html . Hopefully her parents names will be on the marriage license.
Did you know she had two children with David Wiggins?
In 1880 was living in Pocahontas, Baker Co., OR. Sometime before 1880 she married a P. L. Lathrop.
You probably have info about her marriage and death. Successful Searching!
