Hi Diane, I found the Simmons family in 1880 in Gainesville, Hall Co., GA. Phil. R. Simmons, b. abt. 1834, GA, lawyer; Jane M., b. abt. 1836, NC; Alfred C., b. abt. 1862, GA, working shoe factory; James C., b. GA abt. 1870 and Rufus G. b. GA abt. 1877.
Phil R. Simmons and part of the family were in Lewis Co., WA in 1885 (before WA became a state). Phil, b. GA, abt. 1833, farmer; Jane, b. NC, 54; J. C., b. GA, 17; and R. G.b. GA 13.
Phillip and a Jennie M. appear in the 1900 Sulphur, Lewis Co., WA Census. Phillip b. July 1834, GA, married 39 yrs, farmer; Jennie M. b. NC Feb. 1833. She had given birth to 7 children & 4 were alive in 1900.
An A. C. Simmons was living in a logging camp Union, King Co., WA in 1900. He was b. Jan 1862, GA, single, woodsman & both parents b. in GA.
A James C. Simmons was living in Portland Ward 10, Multnomah Co., OR in 1900 with his first family. James b. Jan 1870, GA, logger & married 5 yrs (father b. GA & m. b. WV); Nellie (wife) b. IA May 1872. Nellie had given birth to 2 children both alive in 1900. Hazel b. OR Sept 1895 and Gordon James b. OR Nov 1899.

A James C. Simmons, b. GA, 49 yrs old, deputy sheriff Pacific Co (f. b. GA & m. b. TN); Jessie, b. WA, 35, teacher public school and Gordon, b. OR, 20, single.
A James C. Simmons, b. GA, 60, special police saw mill (f. b. GA & m. b. SC); Jessie, b. WA, 45, superintendent county schools.
