Trying to confirm that my ancestor Edward/John WINKLER is a sibling (or cousin) of Pauline WINKLER. According to the 30 Oct 1872 record of her marriage to Franz CHRISTOPH in Charlesburg or Charlestown, Calumet, Wisconsin, Pauline was born in Leuppusch, Kreis Grottkau, Silesia, Germany. Her parents are recorded as Anton WINKLER and Rose GLOBER (wondering if this might be a variation of something more like GLAUBER?). Franz was recorded as born in Woisselsdorf, Silesia about 2 miles away from Leuppusch.
One of two connections I find between Pauline and Edward is that his wife Johanna BITTNER's family originated in Leuppusch, Silesia, Germany as Pauline's did. In fact, Edward probably was from there, as well, or certainly close by, since Woisselsdorf was recorded as the family's last residence on the ship's manifest when they emigrated to Michigan, apparently after his death. These were both small villages with populations of about 150 or less.
The other connection I found is that Edward's daughter Johanna/Jennie traveled from Marquette, MI to Chilton, WI in August 1910 to attend Pauline's husband Franz' funeral. In early Sept, Jennie wrote her mother Johanna (Bittner) a postcard, letting her know she would stay on with Pauline to help her with some things. It seems that there has to be a fairly close family connection for her to have done that, so Pauline might have been Jennie's aunt or cousin, and Edward's sister or cousin.
Edward is thought by some of the family to have been named John or Johann, although the marriage records of two of his children give his name as Edward. Also, it might or might not help to know that Leuppusch was renamed Lubcz, Grodkow, Poland at the end of WWII.
I appreciate any information on Pauline's family or confirmation of the blood tie between her and Edward.
