What an interesting family! You may already be familiar with the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR). According to their files, Johannes Eifert was born in 1885 in Rasanowka, Volga, Russia (perhaps an alternate spelling of the same village to which you refer). Certainly this could be the Johannes Eifert to whom your ancestor was traveling.

"John Eifert, 48, Dies In Cass City
John D. Eifert, 48, of Bad Axe died Thursday, June 13, in Stevens Nursing Home where he had been a patient 12 years. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, and burial was in Colfax cemetery. Born July 11, 1914, near Bad Axe, he was a lifelong resident of the Thumb. Stricken when a young man, he was first confined to a wheelchair and later to bed. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Warthman and Mrs. Emma Kaijala, both of Bad Axe. Eifert's tragic illness stemmed from a fall he suffered as a boy. Despite the crippling illness, he remained a cheerful patient through his years of illness."
