Thanks to New Holstein Historical Society books, the New Holstein Public Library files, the census, family members and more, I have learned much about my Hachez ancestors.
In 1854, Ferdinand Hermann Hachez, his wife Louise and son Ferdinand sailed from Bremen on the ship Robert, arriving in New York on August 4. From there they traveled to New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin.
In the 1870 Census, the elder Ferdinand reported that he was born in Bremen, while on his Declaration of Intention to become a citizen, he reported being born in Hannover, likely meaning the province of that name.
The younger Ferdinand, born in 1848 in Holstein, Germany, married Eliese Boie, daughter of Nicholas and Cecilia Boie. Eliese had come to New Holstein with her parents, also in 1854. Ferd. and Eliese had nine children.
